Winter in the Grisons holiday resort of Arosa offers a natural alpine experience that captivates visitors. With a wealth of activities, authentic charm and an impressive natural backdrop, Arosa delights all those in search of something special. Under the motto ‘Genuine Arosa’, SNOWTIMES shows what makes the village in the Schanfigg valley so unique.
Truly versatile.
In autumn 2024, the booking platform Omio examined over 6000 ski resorts worldwide and found the best one in Switzerland: Arosa Lenzerheide in Graubünden. The conclusion: ‘Arosa Lenzerheide combines some of the best ski slopes and is ideal for groups of all levels. The ski schools, mountain railways and the wide range of events on offer are also plus points.’
The snow-sure area scores with perfectly groomed pistes, cosy mountain huts, many sunny days and a wide range of culinary delights. The ‘Urdenbahn’ double aerial tramway connects the Aroser Hörnli and Urdenfürggli in five minutes, creating the largest interconnected ski area in Graubünden with 225 kilometres of pistes. The top destination offers children’s areas, practice slopes, first-class runs and snow parks for every level. Freeriders and ski tourers also get their money’s worth away from the pistes.
Highlight-tip: How about full moon skiing or ‘early bird’ sunrise descents for that special kick?
Truly moving.
Arosa also has a lot to offer away from the slopes in winter. Those seeking peace and quiet and adventure fans alike get their money’s worth here. The open artificial ice rink and ice rink offer ice skating, ice hockey, curling and curling. Snowbike tours through the forest or paragliding flights over the winter paradise provide an adrenaline rush. A romantic carriage ride or the magical ice bath in the ‘Eisbadi’ in Untersee offer unique experiences.
The snow-covered nature of Arosa invites you to go cross-country skiing and winter hiking. Whether classic or skating, challenging or relaxed – the trails lead through forests, along lakes and across wide plateaus with marvellous valley views. Arosa also offers over 60 kilometres of groomed walking and hiking trails, some of which run right through the middle of the snow sports area.
Movement tip: Snowshoeing, the quiet winter pleasure. The snow-covered nature of Arosa can be discovered on snowshoes, while guided tours take you to the most beautiful places in the dreamy winter region.
Truly enjoyable.
The restaurants in Arosa are synonymous with culinary experiences: Whether it’s a sumptuous brunch on the sun terrace, an exquisite GaultMillau menu in an award-winning restaurant or a cosy meal in a homely parlour – guests can expect moments of pleasure in many places here. The restaurateurs in and around Arosa rely on regional products, a varied menu and a passionate commitment to providing their guests with unforgettable moments of pleasure.
Pleasure tip: All mountain restaurants and huts can be reached on skis or on foot and invite you to savour culinary delights.
Truly adventurous.
Arosa offers families and children a varied programme in winter. The ‘Ski school included’ offer is particularly attractive: with at least two overnight stays in partner accommodation, all children up to the age of 17 receive free group lessons – regardless of whether they are beginners, want to practise tricks in the snow park or take part in a ski race. The ski instructors offer free lessons for every level.
If you want to explore the ski area on your own, there are free practice slopes on the Kulmwiese in Innerarosa and in the Honigland near Prätschli, or experienced skiers can discover the ski area with the Escape Routes – the puzzle routes across the ski area. Away from the pistes, families can whizz down into the valley on almost five kilometres of toboggan runs, glide across the ice or enjoy a snowball fight on a winter walk.
Adventure tip: At dusk, the Arosa-Weisshorn cable car takes you from the valley station to the middle station and back again on the Märligondel.
Truly authentic.
It’s not just the main town at the end of the valley that impresses with its white winter splendour. The wild Schanfigg mountain valley between Chur and Arosa has retained its original character and cultural specialities to this day. It stretches from the Plessur at the bottom of the valley up to the Mattjischhorn and into the picturesque side valleys of Fondei and Sapün. The rich cultural heritage and lively village culture can still be experienced in Schanfigg.
Experience tip: Sonnenberg Hochwang is a real insider tip for winter sports. The small, family-friendly ski area with eleven perfectly groomed natural snow pistes promises unadulterated winter fun.
