It doesn’t get any better than this: the renowned international hotel association The Leading Hotels of the World (LHW) has accepted the new 5-star superior Hotel Huus Quell into its illustrious circle. The flagship of the Appenzeller Huus will carry this global seal of quality as soon as it opens at the beginning of 2025.
The most modern hotel spa in Switzerland, which will be located under the roof of Huus Quell, was one of the deciding factors for the outstanding award. Its indoor and outdoor facilities, crowned by an impressive rooftop pool, are unrivalled – and not just in this country. To start with, 30 rooms and suites will have exclusive access to the Quell Spa. Further suites and luxury flats will follow by 2026.
New hideaway in perfect tranquillity
‘We are delighted to welcome Hotel Huus Quell to The Leading Hotels of the World,’ says Deniz Omurgonulsen, Vice President, Member Experience, The Leading Hotels of the World. ‘With a focus on wellness and tranquil surroundings, this stunning property is in line with our ambition to provide exceptional and personalised experiences for our guests. Hotel Huus Quell embodies the essence of tranquillity and offers a sanctuary where visitors can truly relax and socialise. We look forward to introducing this new wellness community to LHW travellers.’
Recreation in the heart of Appenzell
Since the opening of the Huus Bären (3-star superior) and the Huus Löwen (4-star superior) in the centre of the village of Gonten, the Appenzeller Huus resort has developed into a special holiday destination in Eastern Switzerland. For General Manager Tim-Martin Weber, inclusion in the prestigious group of The Leading Hotels of the World is confirmation that the new five-star deluxe Hotel Quell will be one of the best hotels in the country.
He says: ‘The many successes at the individual stages of the overall Appenzeller Huus project motivate us to continue working together on the vision of the lifestyle community every day. Here, in harmony with nature, in a highly professional hotel operation with state-of-the-art wellness facilities, with the largest wine cellar in Switzerland and an innovative bar concept, we will set international standards with the help of our new partner The Leading Hotels of the World.’
Holistic relaxation
In addition to the classic wellness offerings such as pools, herbal and meditation saunas, salt vapour bath and rain room, the innovative wellness facilities also include hypeable oxygen therapy, cryotherapy, infrared therapy, biohacking and much more. The cosy relaxation areas are inspired by the themes of mountains, lakes and forests. Accordingly, organic materials are used in the construction; waterfalls, sound and light effects ensure a deeply relaxing ambience.
The other planned buildings in the resort, in which condominiums and serviced flats will be built, will also benefit from the 5-star service package at Huus Quell. Wellness, gastronomy and culture – with its own curated event venue, the Appenzeller Forum – are all in one place. With this holistic approach for body, mind and soul, the Appenzeller Huus resort aims to sensitise its residents to an all-round healthy lifestyle.
About the Appenzeller Huus
At 902 metres above sea level, a contemporary retreat and recreation area called ‘Appenzeller Huus’ has been under construction in the historic village of Gonten since 2023. The three-star superior Hotel Huus Bären (20 rooms) and Hotel Huus Löwen (24 rooms) are already welcoming guests, while the opening of the five-star Hotel Huus Quell (30 rooms) with one of the most innovative wellness areas in Switzerland is planned for the first quarter of 2025. In addition to 43 serviced flats, the new bar ‘The Botanicum’, an additional restaurant and Switzerland’s largest wine cellar will complete the hotel resort. The motto ‘A Wellness Lifestyle Community’ by investor Jan Schoch is emblazoned across the entire project.
The gourmet restaurant Bärenstobe welcomes travellers and locals alike, as well as the cosy Löwenstobe, the Lehnerstobe, the Jakob Schlaepfer Lounge, the Appenzellerstöbli and the tavern. In the Schmitte with Cigar Lounge and the centuries-old cellar vault, cellar master Hans Rhyner looks after the treasures. Further catering facilities and a summer terrace are being created. The Appenzeller Forum in the Löwensaal regularly offers concerts, readings and lectures with culinary accompaniment. This room with a Steinway grand piano is also ideal for larger celebrations or seminars.
