A unique and spectacular place on a promontory surrounded by Lake Ceresio covered with vineyards, olive groves, extensive pastures and expanses of forest, in the heart of the estate stands the Morcote Castle, which encompasses centuries of history.
It recounts a tradition and culture of the land handed down by the Gianini family, now in its fourth generation: Gaby and her husband Maurizio dedicate themselves with passion and dedication to the farm and wine business with the utmost respect for the environment, following the principles of organic and biodynamic agriculture.
The terraced vineyards slope down towards the lake and sink their roots into loose soil on pink porphyry skeleton, a rock of volcanic origin, which together with the microclimate regulated by thermal lake winds provide an exceptional terroir for the cultivated grapes of Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay. This gives rise to elegant, fragrant and unique wines that are an expression of the land from which they come.
In the small village of Vico Morcote, lies the Relais Castello di Morcote, an intimate and elegant hotel de charme with only twelve rooms, converted from a 16th-century villa set in a Mediterranean garden and enjoying a marvellous view of the lake. The Relais has recently completed its hospitality offer with La Sorgente, a 20-seat restaurant with a magical atmosphere offering regional cuisine that is never banal and with an eye to the future and sustainability. Chef Francesco Sangalli focuses on the search for quality local products, sourced from small local producers, and enhanced by cooking over an open fire or smoking.
