QUALITYTIMES.CH has found the ideal hotel for your next city trip to Lucerne: Hotel Schlüssel Luzern. This small but fine city hotel is located in the centre of Lucerne’s Old Town, in the immediate vicinity of the Chapel Bridge and just a few minutes› walk from the train station. The perfect place to wind down after an active and impressive day in the city and reflect on the day.
I visited the Hotel Schlüssel Luzern for QUALITYTIMES.CH and was delighted. The hotel is simply furnished, with everything you need. ‘Our design and the furnishings of the rooms are deliberately kept simple, because the city already offers guests a wealth of impressions. With us, they find a place of peace and quiet to switch off and concentrate on the essentials,’ says Ferry Wey, host of Hotel Schlüssel Luzern. And that is indeed the case. The rooms are painted in a subtle shade of green and, as you know, the colour green stands for tranquillity, among other things. You check in independently. Before you arrive, you receive all the necessary information by e-mail and then checking in on site is child’s play.
Feast at Restaurant Schlüssel
The historic Schlüssel restaurant at Hotel Schlüssel is also well worth a visit. The rooms invite you to enjoy a cosy evening, which can also last a little longer. The menu features exciting combinations of seasonal and regional products. To start, I had a tartelette with mushroom duxelles, mascarpone and onions – a phenomenal start. For my starter, I opted for something classic: the key salad. However, the salad was anything but classic. Sure, it came in the form of a salad, but the fig mustard dressing, the beetroot cream and the roasted seeds served with it were delicious. For the main course, I chose the Angus beef brisket from Ennetbürgen. This was served with homemade Szeged sauerkraut and a beurre blanc. To be honest, I’m not necessarily the biggest sauerkraut fan, but the sauerkraut in the key tasted really good – I would order it again.
For me, the Schlüssel Luzern epitomises the fact that you can turn something ‘simple’ into something ‘excellent’ in every respect. For a sweet finish, I chose ‘Straciatella’: quark ice cream with Felchlin chocolate. A successful finale. Of course, a good meal must be accompanied by the right wine. Director Ferry Wey’s expertise is evident in the wine list. ‘We have divided the wine list into three categories: ora et labora, in dubio pro reo and veni vidi vici,’ explains Ferry Wey.
In addition to the delicious food, I was particularly impressed and pleasantly surprised: although I was in the restaurant without company – a situation that can sometimes be a little unusual – I felt completely at ease. The friendly and attentive service certainly played a big part in this, but the lively and inviting atmosphere in the restaurant also contributed to this. Surrounded by other guests, I sat at my table until after 10 pm, enjoying my meal and two glasses of red wine and savouring the evening to the full. Truly a wonderful experience!
Restaurant Schlüssel remains true to its vision: ‘Our vision includes dishes that are reduced, simple and purist – and yet, or precisely because of this, challenge and delight all your taste buds.’ A philosophy that I can only wholeheartedly agree with.
